Eurovision 2010

So after watching the clips from 2010's Eurovision performances in class, I had to check out the winner just to see what kind of show she put on. Interestingly enough, she probably had one of the more simple set ups and yet still won by such a large gap. I guess that goes to show that maybe the more over the top, yet very entertaining, performances don't do as well. It's also interesting to note that the top four all sang in English rather than their native language unlike some of the ones we saw in class. I guess that helps make it easier to market the song and the artist after the competition and set up a more international career. That probably is a reason why Lena (the winner from Germany) won since her song is very pop-y and can easily be sent anywhere to work in different markets. I'm amazed it even showed on my last.fm library last week.

So in case you haven't checked it out, here's a link to the Eurovision 2010 winner

  1. That's really interesting. Have you looked at past winners too? You'd think that if there was some sort of formula to winning, (that the pop songs in English were usually the winners) than the other countries would conform to that model. However, there may be something to showing of their countries best song writers and performers in their national tongue as a national pride.
